Challenge
Google Play needed to do more than inform its top regional partners — it needed to earn their trust. The challenge was positioning the local Google Play team as the definitive go-to partner for app and games developers in the region, while simultaneously showcasing unreleased product features.
The audience was discerning, time-pressured, and already deeply embedded in the ecosystem. A standard conference format simply wouldn't move the needle.
Strategy
The strategic foundation was community. Rather than broadcasting at partners, the event was designed to build genuine belonging — creating a space where developers felt seen, heard, and invested in by Google Play.
The event architecture reflected this: a mix of keynote inspiration, intimate office hours, AI-powered product experiences, and peer networking ensured that every touchpoint reinforced the same message — Google Play is here, present, and committed to your success. The overarching theme of play was woven throughout the physical and digital experience, making a B2B summit feel energetic and distinctly Google.
Execution
A large-format digital welcome wall displayed live agenda, venue maps, and QR-linked details — setting an immediately tech-forward tone. Dedicated AI Experience and AI Quick Build stations let partners interact hands-on with Google's latest developer tools.
Product demo booths — including Engage SDK and Google for Startups Accelerator — gave partners a firsthand look at new features. A keynote, fireside chat with Garena and Shopee, and Google Play's Best of 2025 Awards Ceremony balanced inspiration with practical value, culminating in an evening of happy hours designed to deepen relationships beyond the formal agenda.
Results
Google Playtime successfully repositioned the local Google Play team as a credible, community-led partner for the region's top developers. The event generated direct reputational value by demonstrating Google Play's commitment to apps and games business growth in front of key opinion formers.
Critically, it created a structured feedback loop — gathering insights from top partners to directly inform Google Play's product and business priorities going forward.
